Great Britain National Team Triumph At The British Taekwondo Open

The Great Britain National Team have finished in first position following two exciting days of taekwondo action at Manchester 

In the female competition an all British final paved the way for Scotland’s Louise Mair to take victory in her -47kg category. The Great Britain Team member fought off competition from German National Team member Sarina Kleidz in her semi-final before beating Jemma Johnson in a tightly contested final. Farren Cummins (Great Britain National Team) also put in a good performance in the -63kg final but ultimately was unable to defeat Norwegian opponent Mona Solheim.

Olympian Michael Harvey took second place in his -62kg class final against Iranian fighter Abdolrezay Davoud whilst other men’s highlights included second place finishes from British athletes Zoheb Khalid and Temidayo Jegede who lost to Korean and Iranian opposition respectively.

Andrew Link, Operations Director of BTCB – Sport Taekwondo UK, said,“The tournament has been a great success and with yesterday’s ETU approval regarding our A-Class status, next year’s September meeting promises to be even bigger and better. We have been extremely impressed by the standard of the international athletes that have made the journey to Manchester and look forward to inviting them back again in the future.”
